Activity Notes

Arlene Blum, biophysical chemist, author, and mountaineer began climbing in Portland with the Mazamas and at Reed College. She has led successful expeditions to Annapurna I and Denali, walked 2000 miles across the Great Himalaya mountain range of Bhutan, Nepal, & India, and carried her baby daughter across the Alps. Her scientific research and policy work with government and business to reduce harmful chemicals in consumer products protects human health and the global environment. Blum shares her favorite images and dramatic illustrating her climbs of remote and beautiful high peaks and her scientific research and policy work towards a healthier world.
