Activity Notes

Jared Kennedy and Stephen Hatfield with the Greater Hells Canyon Council will talk about the Blue Mountains Trail. The trail was developed and launched by GHCC in 2021, and the presentation will be an immersive adventure through the diverse interconnected eco-regions that comprise the Greater Hells Canyon Region, taking you deep into the mountains, forests, rivers, ecosystems, and communities of northeast Oregon. It will share the living history of why the Blue Mountains are ecologically unique and more parts of it deserve permanent protection. Come find out why the Blue Mountains Trail is recognized as one of Oregon's Signature Trail experiences. The presentation will also cover the logistics on how to complete the full 530-mile route from Joseph to John Day, as well as itineraries for shorter section hikes, overnight trips, day hikes, and points of interest along the trail. Jared and Stephen will share more about the history of the Blue Mountains Trail, the importance of connecting trails to rural communities in Northeast Oregon, and how this incredible recreation experience is a pivotal part of GHCC's conservation efforts in the Greater Hells Canyon Region.
