As we strive to break down barriers to being a Mazama, our climbs are now free except those in the Mt. Hood National Forest. This change happened along with the removal of the glaciated peak requirement for membership, which aims to make our nonprofit organization more inclusive and accessible to anyone who wishes to play and protect the outdoors. It also seeks to address U.S. Forest Service permitting issues we’ve been grappling with since last summer.
Membership is now necessary to climb with us. We charge members $40 to climb Mt. Hood. Our hikes remain open to everyone, and also are now free. All of our classes remain available to members and nonmembers alike.
If you join the Mazamas, you:
- Tap into a storied legacy that began atop Mt. Hood in 1894
- Climb for free (except in the Mt. Hood National Forest area)
- Receive reduced pricing on various educational offerings, activities like Round the Mountain and domestic and international outings
- Get discounts from local and major retailers
- Access materials from one of the largest and only remaining outdoor-focused libraries in the country
- Learn from living legends and trusted, top-notch instructors
- Stay at the Mazama Lodge on Mt. Hood
- Make and strengthen friendships
- Tend trails, volunteer and be of service to PNW splendors
- Advance research on everything from climate change to volcanic rock formations
