Activity Notes

Hike along the Salmon River trail, find a nice spot about two miles in, fix and have brunch along the river.

5 miles, 500 feet of elevation gain (Grade A)

This is a ‘skill building’ hike intended to provide you a chance to practice cooking with your backpacking stove in the wilderness and back country culinary skills.

We’ll follow the trail along the Salmon river, hiking in about two miles, find a good option for us to stop and cook brunch along the river.

Allow ½ hour for cooking and meal prep, and another ½ hour to share brunch together along the river.

If it’s raining, we’ll setup tarps to keep the rain off us.

After were done with brunch we’ll hike back out the way we came.

Pace: Level 2 (2 to 2.5 mph) moderate pace, with time for breaks and enjoying the scenery and sounds of the river.

We’ll carpool from the Gateway Park and Ride, meet at 7:45 am, departing at 8 am.  Or, alternately, meet at the trail head at 9:15 am.  Expect to return to the Park and Ride by 2 pm.

Recommended/required gear: 10 essentials, backpacking cook stove, fuel and meal prep materials.

Allergy information: This is not intended as a potluck.   Expect to make enough for yourself and should you be so inclined, some, or a taste, to share.  As a friendly reminder, some people have food allergies and may not be inclined to share.  For example, I’ll be making a gluten free potato and egg scramble with cheese, spinach, onions and garlic.

Group Size Limit: 12

Driving Distance from Gateway Park and Ride: 45 miles each way. (~1 hour 10 minutes)
