Activity Notes
Mt. Maude (9082 feet) is one of the three 9,000 foot peaks that comprise the spectacular headwaters cirque of the Entiat River, one of the major drainages on the east side of the Cascade crest and a tributary of the Columbia River. The approach used is from the west via the Chiwawa River Road to the Phelps Creek Trailhead and the Leroy Creek route. The standard south route of the peak is a easy scramble with excellent views of the North Cascades. We will camp up high in alpine terrain.
You will need to drive to the trailhead (Phelps Creek) on Saturday Morning June 29 to meet group at 1PM. Plan for a 6 1/2 hour drive from Portland.
Hike in Saturday afternoon to camp. We will climb Sunday morning and be back in camp later that afternoon. Hike out Monday and drive home. We will hike at a moderate pace and take breaks hourly.
Participants need to have experience using ice ax and crampons on low angle snow slopes.
