From the Wahtum Lake Trailhead, the trail drops on steep switchback steps through old-growth fir forest to the shore of Wahtum Lake, then joins the Pacific Crest Trail heading south along the lakeshore and up through the East Fork Eagle Creek drainage to Indian Springs Campground, where sweeping views of Mount Hood, Jefferson, Rainier, and St. Helens open up. From there, the Indian Mountain Trail climbs a final mile and a half to the summit — a former fire lookout site now covered in wildflowers, with expansive views dominated by Mount Hood — before retracing the roughly nine-mile round trip back to the trailhead.
