The Mount Defiance hike is a steep hike with great views of the surrounding mountains on a clear day. You can make it a loop hike by going up the Starvation Ridge Trail and back down the Mount Definance Trail or you can go out and back on the same trail. Mount Defiance is the highest peak in the Columbia River Gorge, offering one of the most demanding day hikes in the region. We will ascend via the Mount Defiance Trail and descend down the Starvation Ridge Trail, featuring a relentless climb, steep terrain, and incredible views of Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood on a clear day.

Important Note on Difficulty: This is a strenuous hike requiring excellent physical conditioning and strong endurance. Please carefully evaluate your current fitness level and recent trail experience before signing up.

Meeting Times & Locations: 7:00 AM at MMC (carpool) or 7:50 AM at Starvation Creek State Park.

Parking: Oregon State Park Annual Parking Permit ($60 for residents and $75 for non-residents) or Day-use Parking Permit ($10 for in-state residents and $12 for out-of-state visitors). Restrooms on site.
