Basics of Big Wall Climbing 2026

Activity Notes

Advanced Rock is hosting a 2-session skill-builder to impart the skills necessary to get you on your first big wall.<br> Over the course of the two sessions, hosted at the Mazama Mountaineering Center, you will learn the basics of aid leading, hauling, jugging, completing lower outs, and setting up a portaledge.<br> This class will NOT cover:

• trad gear placement
• anchor building
• lead belaying or lead climbing
• multipitch techniques

(Students should be well familiar with the above skills before applying)

<br> In order to join this course, students must be graduates of Advanced Rock OR demonstrate a robust climbing resume with at least 5 trad multipitches as a leader in the last year, along with a belay certification at a local gym.<br> Applications will be open until 10/28, and notifications of admission will be sent 10/29.
