This is an B level Mazama Hike that occurs in a non-wilderness area. B level hikes are moderate or more challenging hikes with either less than 15 miles in distance with between 1,500 and 3,000 feet elevation gain or between 8 and 15 miles in distance with less than 1,500 feet of elevation gain.

This is one of 6 hikes we will do on July 20th to 25th. Come and camp in the area or drive up and meet us there. We will leave the Cougar Washington Rest Area at 9:30.

At 9.3 miles one-way, with car shuttle, the Cinnamon Trail forms the southwest boundary of the Mount St. Helens Volcano Monument. The trail follows the Kalama River upstream through large trees including hemlock, western redcedar, silver fir, and Douglas-fir, then ascends to a ridge with views of Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams. The highest point is 4,000 feet. The trail provides great views to the north of Saint Helens and Goat Mountain, with Mount Adams to the east and distant views of Mount Hood to the south.
