Activity Notes

We'll carpool at 8 AM from the MMC to the Bonanza Trailhead in Welches just west of the Salmon River. Hikers meeting at the trailhead should arrive no later than 9 AM. If the trail is snow-free, we'll aim to finish the hike in 5.5 hours or better. In the event of significant snowfall, this will turn into a snowshoe.

The trail totals about 10 miles and 3k' of gain. Most of the gain is between mile 2 and 5 (the summit), so despite the overall stats, portions of the trail are significantly steep. The trail also crosses Little Cheney Creek and a couple drainages; this time of year water levels may be high and crossings may be particularly slippery or otherwise challenging.

This will be an exploratory hike, meaning the leader has not hiked this trail before.
