Activity Notes
The trail was originally called the Gumjuwac Saddle Trail and was built before 1920. It was abandoned in the mid-20th century but was restored in the 1970s. We can expect a few downed trees to crawl over and maybe a little overgrowth on the trail. This will be an adventurous loop!
This is a longer loop hike through the Badger Creek Wilderness area. We'll start at the Gumjuwac trailhead and head up the saddle on trail #480. We'll take the Badger Creek cut off #477 towards the junction of Divide Trail #458 and the Flag Mountain cut off trail. If there is time, we can head to Flag Mountain. We then head on to the Divide Trail #458 to Lookout Mountain (6532') to soak in beautiful views of Jefferson, Hood and Adams before returning back to the trailhead.
This longer hike will be approximately 16-17 miles and approximately 4500 elevation gain.
