Activity Notes

HAR practice time for AR graduates who plan on assisting during AR 2023.
For fun, I've decided to offer you a scenario that you will work through during the session.
(Or if you feel like doing your own thing, that's fine too).
Please review, and consider the options. If you get totally stumped, feel free to email me or ask a friend.
Two climbers have just finished a 4 pitch trad route in Yosemite. They climbed on a cut-70m, which is now closer to 65 meters. At the top of the climb, they scramble over left to a rappel line. They set up the rappel and Climber 1, Damon, goes down, using an ATC with a friction hitch backup. Climber 2, Jamon, remains at the top anchor patiently waiting. The rope is bi-color, blue on one side, pink on the other.
Damon gets to the bottom of the rappel and realizes that the rope is too short to reach. Blue side is almost at the anchor, but pink side is 15 feet short. There is no way he will reach the anchor.
Damon and Jamon have radios and can communicate easily. Both are familiar with rope rescue and load releasable hitches. Both climbers have cordelette, a handful of slings, and lockers. Damon is whiney and does NOT want to ascend 35 meters on an ATC - he’s too tired 😢 . Find another way to continue rappelling!
