Smith Rock (Mt. Ellinor Rainout Option)

Activity Notes

This day of climbing at Smith Rock is a replacement activities for the climbers on the June 10th Mt. Ellinor climb that has been canceled due to weather.  Anyone who was on that Mt. Ellinor climb can apply for this day of top rope climbing and will be accepted! Details: We will meet by the kid's Monkey Face play area near the bathrooms and Visitor's Center at 7:45 AM.  We will have a short morning meeting and then hike in to an area of Smith with routes of a variety of difficulties (likely Adit Rock).  Once we get to the climbing area, the ICS grads in the group will set up several routes to top rope.  If we finish in one area we will move as a group to another area and set up new routes.  We will pack up and start hiking back out at 5 PM, likely arriving back to the cars at 6 PM or earlier.  Optional to eat dinner in Terrebonne with the group afterwards. Logistics: It is about a 3 hour drive to Smith Rock.  You can either drive down early Friday morning or camp the night before at the Climber's Bivouac .  The cost to camp is $8 per person per night.  Note that sleeping in vehicles is not allowed.  I plan to camp again Friday night and drive home on Saturday. Gear: backpack (plan to help carry the ropes) suitable climbing clothing: comfortable climbing clothes, rain jacket, puffy jacket, hat & gloves (check the  weather ) hiking boots or sturdy shoes lunch/snacks/water (2-3 liters of water) personal effects: sunscreen, personal medications climbing harness climbing helmet belay device w/ locking carabiner  personal pro leash and locking carabiner autoblock and locking carabiner other BCEP climbing gear (optional) rock shoes (can be rented from the Mountain Shop for $10 - they should fit snug but comfortably.  If they are painful or your foot is cramped, go up in size!) camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, pad, toiletries (there is a shower), food)
