Activity Notes

The pacific coast is beautiful this time of the year with ample sunlight. Let's go for a hike up Neahkahnie Mountain via the Oregon Coast Trail, where the mountain meets the sea. This will be approximately 5.3 miles roundtrip, with 1300 feet of elevation gain (please see the link above for the map of the hike which shows 5.3 miles roundtrip, not 11 miles like the auto-generated table indicates - I am working on getting that information fixed). Weather is expected to be dry and warm, but could still be vulnerable to showers, so watch the weather forecast and dress/carry gear accordingly.

5:50 a.m. meet at Sunset Transit Center Park & Ride, located at 10470 SW Barnes Rd, Beaverton, OR 97005 (Please do not navigate to "Sunset Transit Center" on Google Map, but use the address provided, since Google will have you stop in the middle of the ramp to the freeway). Plan on arriving 10-15 minutes early to check-in and arrange carpools, so we can leave on time. Please meet at the SW corner of the parking structure (just by the entrance) on the first floor. My car is a white Corolla. We will discuss carpool when you get there.

6:00 a.m. departure from the Sunset Transit Center. Expected drive time is 1 hour 45 minutes.

8:00 a.m. hike start from Oregon Coast trailhead.

12:00-1:00 p.m. back to car

2:00-3:00 p.m. back to Portland

A minimum of 2 liters of water, lunch, sunscreen and sun protective clothing, and insect repellant (mosquitoes/ticks) recommended. If you have any medical condition that requires emergency medication, please bring them along.

Based on a group decision we may stop for fun, food and fellowship at a local eatery on the way back.

Per Mazamas' regulation, hiking group is limited to 12 people, so we can only take additional 10 hikers. If there is a waitlist and someone drops out, I will send an email to all waitlisters and accept the first person who replies.
