Activity Notes

Smith Rock is the most visible remaining element of the Crooked River Caldera, a Yellowstone-sized volcano that erupted 30 million years ago. Today it's known as Oregon's rock climbing mecca, but it also offers some of the state's most iconic hiking. We will ascend to a great view of Monkey Face, then we will take the longer Summit loop clockwise around Smith Rock. Along the way, we'll stop to admire rock climbers. And if we're lucky, we'll also see a line of Cascade volcanoes. 6.7 miles, 1,750 ft. Drive. 270 miles RT. Meet at Clackamas Town Center MAX Park & Ride Garage at 6:30 a.m.
