Open daily 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. More than a mile of shoreline access is available for fishing. The access road ends at a gravel parking lot with vault restrooms and the trailhead for the Hamilton Island trail. About five miles of trail are available in the Hamilton Island Recreation and Natural Resource Management Areas that offer scenic views of the gorge and wildlife watching opportunities. The Hamilton Island boat ramp allows access to the river for motorized and non-motorized vessels. There is no day use or boat ramp fee.

  • Drive I-84 east to Exit 44 for Cascade Locks and Stevenson.
  • After 0.4 miles, bear right for the Bridge of the Gods ($2 toll) and Stevenson.
  • Driving over the bridge for 0.7 miles, make a left at the junction with Highway 14W for North Bonneville and Vancouver.
  • Drive 3.2 miles and make a left onto Dam Access Road.
  • After 0.1 miles, go right for Fort Cascades Historic Site.
  • Keep straight, passing the turn for Fort Cascades, for 1.6 miles to the end of the road on Hamilton Island.
