This is an B level Mazama Hike that occurs in a wilderness area. B level hikes are moderate or more challenging hikes with either less than 15 miles in distance with between 1,500 and 3,000 feet elevation gain or between 8 and 15 miles in distance with less than 1,500 feet of elevation gain.

Activity Notes

This is a B level hike in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. We’ll meet at the Sisters Ranger Station at 9:00 AM. The hike starts at the Jack Lake Trailhead. We’ll hike to the high alpine meadow and then scramble up a glacial moraine for close-up views of the east side of Three Fingered Jack and expansive views of the Central Oregon Cascades.

     Distance: 7.5 miles

     Elevation Gain: 1600 feet

     Max Elevation: 6500 feet

     Drive Miles: 24 miles (from Sisters Ranger Station to Jack Lake)

This is one of three day hikes scheduled for September 11-13 in the vicinity of Sisters, Oregon. Anyone planning to stay in the area for multiple days is welcome to camp at a tent site that’s been reserved in the Camp Sherman campground for the nights of September 10-12. Please feel free to contact me for more detailed info about camping. And please let me know by no later than September 3 if you plan to stay at the campground.

Please note: This hike is in a wilderness area where day use permits are required. I will procure permits for all participants. In the event that permits are unavailable, I will select an alternative hike and will notify participants of the change no less than 10 days prior to the scheduled hike date.
