Activity Notes

Second try of 2026 for the epic view, 8 miles in from the trailhead. On 8/02/2026 we could see the waterfalls on the west side of Mt Hood, but nothing higher like glaciers and the summit. There should still be wildflowers, and if we get the view this time it will be awesome.

The Yocum Ridge Trail, which strongly resembles a ramp, never steep, has more than a few downed trees, but all are passable. We will return via the creek-side Ramona Falls Trail, meaning that there is a loop in the middle of our hike, but it's largely an out-and-back. We're starting early because we'll be hiking 18 miles and gaining 3,650'. We'll get away with carrying two liters of water because we can filter at Ramona Falls.

The desired hiking speed is 2.0 to 2.4 mph. As this is a C hike that requires conditioning, evidence of summer 2026 physical activity in Mazamas profiles will be very important in considering team composition.
