Activity Notes
Long, ramp-like trail, never steep, to a very dramatic viewpoint of Mt Hood's west side. This might or may not be too early for peak flowers, but if we hit it right they too will be mind-blowing.
There are a few downed trees that are easy to get around, and the only real hazard is the crossing of the Sandy River on the way to Ramona Falls. The safest 2026 crossing will be researched prior to the hike.
We will return via the creek-side Ramona Falls Trail, meaning that there is a loop in the middle of our hike, but it's largely an out-and-back. We're starting early because we'll be hiking 18 miles and gaining 3,650'. We'll get away with carrying two liters of water because we can filter at Ramona Falls.
The desired hiking speed is 2.0 to 2.4 mph. As this is a C hike that requires conditioning, evidence of summer 2026 physical activity in Mazamas profiles will be very important in considering team composition.
