Situated north of its bigger sibling, Little Beacon Rock (LBR) is a much smaller and older remnant of the volcanic age. Roughly 250' high, LBR's south face is easily viewed from the road that runs below its scree cone on the way to the upper campground. For the most part, LBR is an exfoliating moss-covered chunk of igneous rock, however, it has graciously provided one relatively clean route up its face (Hadley Grove: 2 pitch 5.8 sport).
The views from the top of the formation provide a grand sweeping vista of the Columbia River Gorge and the trail off the top wanders through a lush grove of Douglas firs and a quaint rock garden populated by Pikas. Access is easy and convenient with ample parking and a short 10 min approach, the descent is a pleasant walk-off reminiscent of the many multi-pitch routes on the bigger Beacon Rock to the south.
