Activity Notes

Mt Margaret will be an exploratory hike for your leader, who has hiked past its trail junction a half dozen times but never hiked the last 0.7 miles. What I can promise is copious views of Spirit Lake and Mt St Helens--and if skies are clear--many other mountains in the Pacific Northwest, plus possible huckleberries.

Our route is an out and back from Norway Pass trailhead, the eastern access to the Mt Margaret Backcountry. We will take the signed Boundary Trail all the way to the 0.1 mile Mt Margaret Trail. We will hike approximately 11.0 miles and ascend 2,600.

As I will be starting from the Cougar Rest Area, I will meet you there. I've set our in-town location as Gateway Park & Ride, at the lower level of the garage facing the MAX tracks. The hike's point person, listed in the leader notes for those on the hike, will meet you at Gateway. Your drive can be viewed at https://maps.app.goo.gl/KP1vSh9TqW8Kzuzk9, and our drive can be viewed at https://maps.app.goo.gl/efanNu3rLCGN1RSv5. Note that the entire drive is just over three hours each way.

Vehicles can be left at the Cougar Rest Area, and I'd be willing to take passengers the rest of the way. AWD and high clearance are recommended on the roads to Norway Pass.
