Activity Notes
Fun variation on a north coast hike. Starting from the Oregon Coast trailhead in Manzanita, we'll hike a less traveled route to the south Neahkahnie Mountain trailhead, then we may have lots of company to the summit, where a short rock scramble is required to reach our lunch spot. There we should enjoy copious views of ocean to our west and coast to our south. We'll take an old road part of the way back which starts out steeply down. We will hike 6.5 miles and ascend 1,400'.
We will carpool from Sunset Transit Center at 07:30, meeting near the exit from the first floor of the parking garage. After a stop at the rest area on US 26, we'll gather at the trailhead--make a U-turn on Nehalem St and park facing US 101--around 09:15, starting our hike once everyone has boots and packs on.
