At 6526', Lookout Mt. is the second highest peak in the Mt. Hood National Forest.
The hike starts in dense forest with the first couple of miles going relentlessly uphill
( 1400' in 2 miles ). Then up to Gumjuwac Saddle, so named for a French Canadian
sheepherder named Jack who liked gum shoes, hence Gum Shoe Jack. As you
switchback your way to Lookout enjoy increasingly great views of Hood, Jefferson,
the 3 Sisters and Badger Lake.
Hike 10 miles with elevation gain of 3000'.
Drive 137 miles round trip.
