Tamawanas Falls/Lamberson Spur Hike

Activity Notes

This hike will take us approximately 10 miles up to Lamberson Spur and past Tamanawas Falls. Should be beautiful with the change of color.

It will be a there-and-back hike and not a loop. We won't be heading to Elk Meadow this time. Please see Matt Reeder's PDX Hiking 365 for the expected route. Expected elevation gain and loss is about 2200'.

I expect that we will keep a robust, steady pace of about 2mph up to our destination, and a bit faster coming down. 

This area has been impacted by recent fires, and there may be route-finding issues, deadfall and uncleared brush.

Weather conditions in early fall can bring wind, rain and snow. Be prepared for all eventualities. Trekking poles recommended. Bring <= 1.5 liters of water, lunch, snacks, clothing layers, headlamp and top and bottom rain shells. Hike leader appreciates participants bringing treats to share.

"From I-84, take Exit 17, Troutdale.  Follow the frontage road past the travel centers.<br> Turn right onto NW Graham Rd.  Turn left onto Historic Columbia Hwy.<br> Make the first left and bear right down to the parking lot near the railroad tracks."

Hike leader prefers that we meet up in Troutdale. However, you can meet us at the Tamanawas TH. It will be your responsibility to communicate with the hike leader and to arrive on-time ready to hike from the trailhead. We shall not wait for people arriving separately. 

Car pooling is encouraged but not mandatory. For those hikers open to riding with others please know that drivers may ask for up to .10/mile. Not every hiker has a pay app, so bring cash if you wish to ride with others. The distance from Troutdale to the trailhead is about 70 miles.
