Activity Notes
Little Hamilton Mountain is a promontory on the southern ridge of Hamilton Mountain that offers sweeping views of the Gorge including Bonneville Dam, Beacon Rock, and Hamilton Mountain itself.
This hike will proceed up the Hamilton Mountain Trail but will detour south before the final switchbacks on an unmaintained trail to Little Hamilton Mountain. Some short sections of this use trail are steep and loose, and there is some exposure on Little Hamilton Mountain. Portions of the main Hamilton Mountain Trail are also eroded from hikers cutting switchbacks, leaving a couple large holes in the trail.
While this is an A-level hike, hikers should be prepared for some difficult terrain, be prepared to move at a 2+ mph pace uphill, and be prepared for the possibility of descending in the dark (sunset will be around 6 PM). If you do not have Mazamas activity history, please fill in your profile with details about your hiking experience before registering.
Carpool will depart from MMC at 2 PM. Hikers meeting at the Hamilton Mountain Trailhead should arrive no later than 3 PM.
