Activity Notes
Lesser traveled route to Elk Cove on the Elk Cove Trail. The first 1 1/4 mile will be on a decommissioned road, and then we'll wind up the trail through an area burned by the Dollar Lake fire in 2011, enjoying some amazing vistas along the way until we intersect the Timberline trail and bask in the meadow at Elk Cove. We will cross Pinnacle creek but it should be a rock hop if that. There are reports of some overgrown areas and some downed trees. This will be an out and back and not the loop on the much more overgrown Pinnacle Trail.
The stats for this hike are approximately 9.3 miles 2300 feet per Oregon hikers.

This is going to be a relaxed pace hike uphill, with a slightly faster descent, but we'll adjust based on the party.
We'll meet at the Gateway Transit center at 7:00am (on the side facing the Max tracks). Note the hike will start from the Elk Cove Trailhead. Parking is limited and carpooling is encouraged. There is a recommendation for a higher clearance vehicle due to one rough area. The driving distance is about 81 miles each way, so expect to contribute $16 for carpooling.
