This is an B level Mazama Hike that occurs in a wilderness area. B level hikes are moderate or more challenging hikes with either less than 15 miles in distance with between 1,500 and 3,000 feet elevation gain or between 8 and 15 miles in distance with less than 1,500 feet of elevation gain.

Activity Notes

This is a B level hike in the Mt. Washington Wilderness. We will meet at the Sisters Ranger Station at 9:00 AM. Our hike will begin at the PCT - McKenzie Pass Trailhead.  We’ll follow a section of the PCT through expansive lava fields and then scramble up the 6800 foot cinder cone for fantastic views of the crater and the nearby North Sister and Middle Sister.

7 miles  /  1700 feet.

This is one of three day-hikes scheduled for September 5 – 7 in the vicinity of Sisters, Oregon. It’s approximately a 3.5 hour drive from Portland to Sisters. If you plan to stay in the Sisters area for multiple days, feel free to contact the hike leader for information on camping options.

Please note: This hike is in a wilderness area where day use permits are required. The hike leader will procure permits for all participants. In the event that permits are unavailable, the hike leader will select an alternative hike in the area. Participants will be notified of such a change no less than 10 days prior to the scheduled hike date.
