This is an B level Mazama Hike that occurs in a wilderness area. B level hikes are moderate or more challenging hikes with either less than 15 miles in distance with between 1,500 and 3,000 feet elevation gain or between 8 and 15 miles in distance with less than 1,500 feet of elevation gain.

Activity Notes

This is a B level hike in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. We will meet at the Sisters Ranger Station at 9:00 AM. Our hike will begin at the Jack Lake Trailhead. We’ll hike to the high alpine meadow, and then scramble up a glacial moraine for close-up views of the east side of Three Fingered Jack and expansive views of the Central Oregon Cascades.

7.5 miles / 1600 feet elevation gain

This is one of three day-hikes scheduled for September 5 – 7 in the vicinity of Sisters, Oregon. It’s approximately a 3.5 hour drive from Portland to Sisters. If you plan to stay in the Sisters area for multiple days, feel free to contact the hike leader for information on camping options.

Please note: This hike is in a wilderness area where day use permits are required. The hike leader will procure permits for all participants. In the event that permits are unavailable, the hike leader will select an alternative hike in the area. Participants will be notified of such a change no less than 10 days prior to the scheduled hike date.
