Activity Notes
Long, ramp-like trail, never steep, to a very dramatic viewpoint of Mt Hood's west side. This trail has been hiked many times in August. Often we get epic rain, but sometimes it is warm and sunny, and often the wildflowers are peaking. In short, it's always compelling.
There are a few downed trees that are easy to get around, and the only real hazard is the crossing of the Sandy River on the way to Ramona Falls. The safest 2025 crossing will be researched prior to the hike, and it should be fine for folks with good balance, trekking poles, and a sense of adventure.
We will return via the creek-side Ramona Falls Trail, meaning that there is a loop in the middle of our hike, but it's largely an out-and-back. We're starting early because we'll be hiking 16.5 miles and gaining 3,600'.
The desired hiking speed is 2.0 to 2.4 mph. As this is a C hike that requires conditioning, evidence of summer 2025 physical activity in Mazamas profiles will be very important in considering team composition.
