Activity Notes

Join us for a 2 night/3 day backpack in the Enchantments! We have won a permit for the Snow Zone with an entry date of Friday, August 1st. Below is our current plan:

Day 1 (Friday, August 1st): MMC at 5:15A.M. Drive to Snow Lakes TH near Leavenworth (4 hr 45 min, depending on traffic). Hike 6-8 miles/~4300' gain to Snow Lakes.

Day 2 (Saturday, August 2nd): Layover day where we can explore the Core Zone and play in the lakes, if we wish. It's ~2 miles/1300' gain from Upper Snow Lake to the Core Zone, plus the exploring. We will return and camp in the same spots.

Day 3: (Sunday, August 3rd): Return to Snow Lakes TH and drive home.

Since I have the WFA and MFA badges, I can lead "alpine hikes" but I cannot lead climbs. Per the handbook, this means anything that requires crampons/ice ax, ropes/harness, or helmets. On the layover "play day" we cannot attempt peaks such as Dragontail Peak, Prusik Peak, etc.

Per the permit, there are no campfires allowed above 5000' or within 1/2 mile of a lake and no dogs allowed. We can have a group size of up to 8 people, including leaders. This means we will have 6 openings for participants. We will aim to have the group selected by the end of June. A gear list will be sent to accepted participants; we will try to share to be efficient!

Suggested gas contribution is $42/passenger. I will also seek $20 from each participant to cover the cost of the permit.

At least 21 miles, 5700' gain, high point 7200'
