The new, more southern approach to Neahkahnie Mountain features berry-filled miles of the Oregon Coast Trail that haven't yet found popularity. The trail gets crowded after passing the official south trailhead 2/3 of the way toward the dramatic high point above the Pacific coast.
Activity Notes
Fun variation on a north coast hike. Starting from the Oregon Coast trailhead in Manzanita, we'll hike a less traveled trail to the south Neahkahnie Mountain trailhead, then we'll have lots of company to the summit, where a short rock scramble is required to reach our lunch spot. There we should enjoy copious views of ocean to our west and coast to our south. We'll take an old road part of the way back which starts out steeply down. We will hike 6.5 miles and ascend ~1,400 ft<br> carpool from Sunset TC at 0730 (10470 SW Barnes Rd, Portland, OR 97225) for a meeting point or giving the option of meeting at the Trailhead at 0930.
Optional beach and brew following the hike. The San Dune has great bar food.
Please be prepared to pay drivers 10 cents/mile. Total mileage is 174 miles.
