Activity Notes
This is a one-day climb of Hood's south side. Depending on conditions and traffic, we'll choose either the Pearly Gates or one of the numerous chutes to gain the summit. Expect a steady slog up to the top of Palmer after which you'll likely find inspiration somewhere on the Triangle Moraine as dawn's early light first appears.
I will make space for recent BCEP grads and those who have not yet climbed Hood. A couple spots will be available to more experienced climbers. Climbers of all genders and backgrounds are welcome and respected on my climbs. I am very committed to this principle. Climbers should be fit. Hiking Dog Mtn. up and back in 3 hours might be a good measure but not the only one. 1000ft per hour up Hood is the goal. Hike Palmer in 2.5 hours to gauge how you do at a higher altitude. I'm not terribly fast myself but will want to make good, steady progress.
Most of this climb is on fairly mellow snow slopes but once at the Hogsback, things get steep. Climbers need to be comfortable on slopes >40 degrees and possibly using two tools through some short sections. We'll be prepared to set a fixed line for ascent and descent if needed.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
