Mazamas Instructor Training

Instructor training and skills refresher. Pizza lunch from Baby Doll included. Each Instructor Training session covers the same material and is open to anyone planning to assist as an educator for Mazama programs.

Training Session Goals

This session helps participants, regardless of prior teaching experience, develop and refine essential skills for instructing rock climbing and related activities. Through structured practice, collaborative exercises, and hands-on demonstrations, participants will gain the confidence and clarity needed to teach effectively.

Primary Objectives

  1. Improving Teaching Skills: Refine your ability to plan lessons, manage group time, and teach essential climbing techniques like knots. This session supports educators at all levels, emphasizing clear, organized, and engaging instruction.
  2. Building Community Connections: Strengthen the climbing educator network through icebreakers, shared activities, and social breaks. Build meaningful connections with peers and foster collaboration across groups.
  3. Creating Engaging Learning Experiences: Enjoy hands-on activities and interactive exercises designed to make learning engaging and fun while honing key teaching skills.

Participants will leave with practical tools, stronger connections, and greater confidence to contribute as climbing educators.

Logistics

Participation Limits: These ratios ensure a focused and effective learning environment during various activities throughout the training session.

  • 5:1 participant-to-instructor ratio for lessons, small groups, and new skills practice
  • 12:1 participant-to-instructor ratio for self-guided practice and end-of-day review

Pizza Preferences: We want to make sure everyone enjoys the pizza lunch! Please take a moment to RSVP your dietary preferences using this Google Form. This not only ensures we order the right amount of food but also helps us minimize waste. Your input is much appreciated!
