Gorge point-to-point hike that tags the summits of 3,660’ Augsperger Mtn and 3,100’ Cook Hill.

A less used path to the top of Augspurger Mtn.that will take us to Cook Hill as well. On the steep side at times with the trail following old roads and sometimes brushy tread along ridge lines. Weather dependent views along the way. The return route avoids a second ascent of Cook Hill. Total distance is ~12 miles with 4,000' net elevation gain.

We will meet at the MMC for carpooling with a 7:30 AM departure, arriving at the Cook Hill TH for an 8:30 AM start.

General Route Info Begin with an ascent of Cook Hill, making your way upward along an old logging road and do a quick out & back to tag Cook’s summit. Cook suffers the indignity of being labeled a “hill” on most maps, despite being taller than Dog Mt. by some 60ft. On returning to the main route, continue northwest along the ridge, passing the radio facility and picking up an unnamed trail that follows the ridge top over to the summit of Augspurger Peak. This route is not hiked often and is somewhat brushy. On Augspurger, celebrate your second summit of the day before locating the (mostly) well-maintained trail descending the south ridge. Return the ascent route.
