Angora Peak is nestled in the striking steep-sided mountain range south of Cannon Beach and just north of Neakahnie Mountain. It is a seldom traveled route, but is one of the highest points in the area, providing spectacular views of the ocean, the coast range, and even as far as Mount Rainier on a good day!


The route starts on a logging road though recently logged terrain, but it soon starts cutting up the steep side of the mountain and into the timber. When the maintained road ends, it follows a combination of trails and eroding unused roadbed around the south side of the mountain before finally winding up to the summit.

Activity Notes

Come join AYM to a hike to one on the lesser-travelled coast summits. The hike to Angora peak is around 8 miles with about 2200 feet of elevation gain. We will be hiking on both forest roads and trails. Hopefully we will be rewarded with great views of the coast. As with all my hikes there will likely be chance to stop after the hike for food and beverages.  Please bring your ten essentials along with water and snacks. Note there is not a bathroom at the trailhead.   Also note parking at the trailhead is very limited. It starts at the gate to a logging road which is technically on private property but hikers are allowed to use the forest road up to the trail which is on State Park Property. Thus, please carpool if at all possible. We will plan to meet at the Sunset Transit Center on Highway 26 at 7:30AM and start the hike around 9:00AM.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
