Activity Notes
This hike traces a stretch of the John Day River passing through Cottonwood Canyon State Park. We will hike along a former ranch road, through sagebrush flats, to an old cattle corral nestled beneath columnar basalt cliffs. 9 miles/ 200 feet elevation/ 250 drive miles. We will meet at the trailhead at the J.S. Burres day use area ( located here ) which is a two hour drive from Portland. While this is scheduled as a day hike, participants have an option to car camp near the trailhead. We have a campsite reserved at Cottonwood Canyon State Park. Hikers are welcome to pitch a tent on the nights of April 26 and/or April 27. Contact hike leader for details.Registration is Closed
