Please be at the MMC by 11:50 AM, get your harness and helmet on, and be ready to to start at noon. There is another group coming in after us so we have to be done at 3 PM!
Gear Checklist:
- climbing harness
- climbing helmet
- belay device (ex: ATC)
- carabiners (6 locking & 1 non-locking)
- two prusik slings (waist & leg)
- personal protection leash(es) (2 sewn runners)
- autoblock sling
- pet rope
- comfortable athletic type clothing – the MMC can be both very cold and very warm so please bring layers
- lightweight boots (to practice climbing in)
- snacks and water
- Optional - snacks to share
- Optional - rock climbing shoes
We will practice: belaying, climbing (optional to try a route graded around an "outdoor" 5.9), belaying with GriGri, rappelling on two strands and on a single strand, fixed line travel, running belay, ascending the rope, down climbing, and belay from above.
Safety:
- Speak up and ask questions if something seems unsafe to you.
- All students will be checked by an instructor before climbing, belaying, or rappelling.
- All participants will wear climbing helmets when on and near the climbing wall where there is a possibility of being struck by a falling object (ex: dropped carabiner).
- All participants will remain clipped-in at all times when up on the belay ledge. Instructors stationed up on the ledge are required to be at ICS level or above.
- Sandbags and floor-level bolts are provided for belay anchors.
- Rock chalk is not permitted on the training wall.
