Activity Notes

This is the first of three #OptOutside hikes I'm leading for Mazamas over Thanksgiving weekend 2023. Tag your photos #OptOutside and munch on your Thanksgiving leftovers while, instead of spending Black Friday in stores, we travel to a fee-free trailhead on the Oregon coast just south of the Yachats River. From there we will hike Amanda's Trail, which commemorates the 19th century forced removal of Alsea, Coos, and Lower Umpqua peoples to the Yachats vicinity. After reflecting on this atrocity, we will ascend to multiple viewpoints of the Pacific Ocean at Cape Perpetua. After a short loop at our high point, we will return the same way we came. Our expected stats are 7.5 miles and 1,325' of ascent.
