This is an moderate ascent of a gentle peak in the Cascade Pass area in central WA, with outstanding views and classic alpine terrain: a nice approach trail, a short bit of glacier travel, and some 4th class rock scrambling on the summit block. While commonly done with a high camp, it can be climbed car-to-car in a long day.

The summit vistas are spectacular, from Mt. Baker south to Glacier Peak.

Note the correct name - Sahale Mountain, NOT Mt. Sahale or Sahale Peak.

Activity Notes

This climb features moderate glacier travel and rock scrambling in a stunningly beautiful North Cascades setting. It's a great fit for BCEP grads who are sharp on their skills and eager to get out there.

Four people is the maximum allowed on our permit, and that is also the minimum number needed for a Mazama climb party. Please apply only if you're very serious about wanting to participate.

We'll meet at the North Cascades National Park Wilderness Information Center in Marblemount, Washington on the morning of Sunday, July 23. You will probably want to drive up the day before and car-camp near Marblemount.

After picking up our permit in Marblemount, we'll drive to the Cascade Pass trailhead and hike to our backcountry campsite at the foot of the Sahale Glacier. On Monday, July 24, we will summit and return to camp. On Tuesday, July 25, we'll break camp and hike out.

Skills include glacier travel, fixed-line travel and rappeling. Necessary gear includes crampons and ice ax.
