This is an B level Mazama Hike that occurs in a non-wilderness area. B level hikes are moderate or more challenging hikes with either less than 15 miles in distance with between 1,500 and 3,000 feet elevation gain or between 8 and 15 miles in distance with less than 1,500 feet of elevation gain.

Activity Notes

Pre-BCEP conditioner - a shorter version of the classic Hardy Ridge trailhead to Phlox Point to Hamilton mountain version used in BCEP.

We will take the Equestrian trail to intersection with Hardy Creek trail, then take Upper Hardy Creek trail to Don's Cutoff trail to Hamilton saddle. On the way back we will follow Equestrian trail back to the trailhead.

Total mileage roughly 7.8 miles, elevation gain 1900 ft. Most of the hike is on equestrian trails. Trail will be snowy and icy. Bring ten essentials, microspikes, and weather-appropriate clothing. Poles recommended but optional. We will go a moderate pace.

Drive time from Portland is approximately 1 hour. Parking at the trailhead requires a Washington Discover Pass.
