Grand Tetons Basecamp Outing

Activity Notes

Spend a week camping in this iconic national park! There will be many possible options from easy day hikes to alpine rock climbs. This outing is unstructured; participants may either go on organized hikes (or climbs) or do other activities on their own. It has been many years since the Mazamas had a trip here, so this is a great opportunity to visit. 

The Outing begins on the afternoon of Sunday, August 2. We will be tent camping at the Coulter Bay group camp on Jackson lake. Individuals are responsible for their own food and transportation (1,600 miles round trip by car from Portland). The outing ends on the morning of Sunday, August 9. 

We will try to have group hikes each day at various levels. Climbs may be led by Mazama climb leaders if there is interest and capacity. Participants must ensure they have the requisite badges to sign up for hikes and climbs. There might also be a day trip into Yellowstone in addition to the Tetons. 

We encourage climb and hike leaders to sign-up; the more leaders we have, the more climbs and hikes we can schedule as part of the outing. An organizational meeting will be held in June to match leader and participant interests, put climbs on the Mazama calendar for participant sign up, and arrange transportation. 

The outing fee covering camping fees and leader expenses is $300. The trip is limited to 20 persons (minimum of 8), and applications from climb and hike leaders in good standing will be prioritized. The sign up deadline has been extended to July 15, when participants will be notified of their acceptance and charged to the card on file. If you would like to withdraw your application, please do so before July 15 to avoid your card being charged.
