Come help the Friends of Trees plant at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge in Sherwood, Oregon on Saturday, Feb. 29. The government has been working hard to turn the land, set aside as a refuge in 1992, back to a more natural state within the flood plain of the Tualatin River basin. This planting is part of Trees for All, a partnership that has planted more than 10 million native plants in the Tualatin River Watershed since 2005.
Due to limited space, there will be no volunteer event parking available at the Refuge. Instead, 16030 SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road, Sherwood, OR 97140 is the designated parking location. Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. to give you enough time to take the free shuttle ride to the planting area. The planting will start promptly at 9 a.m. Friends of Trees will provide breakfast snacks and hot chocolate/coffee, as well as gloves, tools, and guidance. Please come dressed for the weather, wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and ready to have fun!
To sign up for our Mazama planting team or ask questions, contact Kate Evans of the Mazama Conservation Committee at kateevans97@gmail.com or 503-635-6540. We will be carpooling from the Tualatin Park and Ride at I-5 exit 290, SW 72nd Ave. and Bridgeport Road, Tualatin at 8:05 or meeting at the parking/ shuttle stop at 16030 SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road at 8:30.
