Activity Notes

At 6526', Lookout Mt. is the second highest peak in the Mt. Hood National Forest.

The hike starts in dense forest with the first couple of miles going relentlessly uphill

( 1400' in 2 miles ). Then up to Gumjuwac Saddle, so named for a French Canadian

sheepherder named Jack who liked gum shoes, hence Gum Shoe Jack. As you switchback

your way to Lookout enjoy increasingly great views of Hood, Jefferson, the 3 Sisters and

Badger Lake. approx. 10 miles with nearly 3000' elevation gain.
