Wilderness First Aid provides and introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills. It is targeted to the outdoor enthusiast on day trips or short adventures. 

This course is offered through Base Medical, which delivers courses in a hybrid format. You will learn the course material through the online component, through a series of videos and quizzes. Then you will have an 8-hour hands-on session to put that learning into practice.

Part One: Online Learning

Once you sign up, you can get started right away. All lectures are video-based and the course can be taken at your own pace as long as you finish by the deadline. Review as many times as necessary. When you are ready, take the final exam.

Part Two: Practical Training

The practical training part focuses on the hands-on skills necessary to gain certification.

ACTIVITY NOTES         

     The Mazamas is partnering with Base Medical to offer Wilderness First Aid (WFA) classes.  The WFA is a hybrid course consisting of:

  • 8 hours of online work
  • 3-4 hours of self-directed Patient Assessment (PAS) skills practice at home to prepare for the practical
  • an in-person practical session
  • an online final exam passed with a score of 80% or higher within seven days of completing the practical portion of the course

*Please note the online course work must be completed 48 hours prior to the practical session to attend and pass the class. (No reschedules or exceptions can be accommodated).  You will receive an email with a link to the online coursework by TBD.

The practical portion of the course will be held at the MMC from 8 AM to 5 PM on the above listed day of the course. More information about the practical course will be sent via email closer to the course date.
