~10 miles, ~1800 feet elevation gain

This is a great hike though the blast zone of Mount St. Helens, with spectacular views of the mountain for most of the way! The trail traverses landslide debris from the eruption, open hillsides covered with trees downed all in the same direction, and some forest that is exactly 42 years old.

We will top out at the Johnston Ridge Observatory, a tourist destination. We probably won't go inside, as it's $8 per person, but it will make a good lunch spot.

Remember to bring sunglasses and sunscreen as most of the hike will in the open. Also bring a waterproof layer if rain if forecast.

Carpooling is encouraged! We will organize carpools at the Gateway Park and Ride parking garage at 8:00AM. Please remember to bring some gas money for your driver, as there will be over 200 miles roundtrip driving.
