The first two miles of this popular route are a trail for all seasons, and is usually open all year. This section of the trail rambles along the Salmon through classic old growth rainforest - some of the most accessible in the Portland region. Beyond the riverside segment, the trail climbs to a sweeping viewpoint of the vast Salmon River canyon, with unseen waterfalls roaring in the depths below.

Activity Notes

Sneak some nature into your work week! We’ll cool off in the shade along the Salmon River, and get a little uphill workout too. This will be a faster paced hike, expect to sweat.

Pooches with no history of aggression towards other pups or humans are welcome to join. They must be leashed at all times.

We will depart promptly at 5.  It will be dark by the time we return to the trailhead. Headlamp required.
