This section of the trail follows a logging road through the forest down to Vernonia Lake and does have some areas where you are walking on paved roads and one section where we use the Scappoose-Vernonia Highway and cross the Nehalem River to get to Vernonia Lake.  We will have lunch at Vernonia Lake and return the way we came.  This hike is 9.4 mile long with 960 ft elevation gain.  Leashed Well Trained Dogs are welcome, but you don't need a dog to attend.
