The BCEP snow day field session is held in the gullies near Timberline Lodge. This day affords you the opportunity to practice snow skills such as movement on crampons, rope team travel, ice axe techniques, moving in balance, self-arrest, self-belay, as well as to observe snow anchors.

Activity Notes

This is our snow skills field session.  ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY FOR GRADUATION.  Here we will learn the technical snow skills, such as ice axe use, self arresting from various positions, high angle snow travel techniques, glissading, rope team glacier travel, passing thru pro while on a rope team, belaying techniques, rappelling, crampon use, and avalanche awareness.

Similar to your rock skills session, there is a significant amount of technical equipment required for this field session.  You will need harness, helmet, ice axe with a leash (rental), crampons & boots (rental), rappel/belay device and locking biner, autoblock and locking biner, personal pro and locking biner, both prussiks and locking biner, and appropriate clothing for snow exposure.

You will spend a significant amount of time lying/rolling/sliding in the snow, so please dress appropriately and warmly, and bring extra spare clothing and gear in case your stuff gets wet (which it will).
