With beautiful views, amazing spring wildflowers, and a relatively short effort, this is one of the most popular hikes in the Gorge. On a good day, you can get a view of Mt. Hood and the Columbia River.

If a student or assistant is not attending the hike, please cancel your hike participation for this activity on your Mazamas dashboard. It is very important to have an accurate roster at the trailhead at it will serve as our attendance list. Please familiarize yourself with Mazamas March 9th Corona Virus protocols Dog Mountain is a steep hike from the start to the summit (Length - 7 miles / elevation - 2800 ft). Make sure you bring the 10 essentials (see this page for the list ( https://mazamas.org/hiking/ ) along with plenty of water and food. Please plan to dress in layers ? the temperature at the start will be cold, but you will get warm quickly. Also, once we are above the trees, it can become very windy. We may experience rain and/or snow, make sure to bring rain gear (jacket and rain pants) as well as traction devices such as microspikes or yaktrax (if you have them). Link to Weather Report Additionally, please print (link to map is on this activity's details page) and bring the navigation document, we will have an introductory conversation on navigation during the hike. Hike Description: Hike will go up in a North to NW direction. At an elevation of 800', we will keep straight and head up the ?Difficult? trail. At around 2000' and 1 mile from the summit, the 2 trails re-merge and we continue up to about 2500'. There, we cut left and head to the summit. We will either take the same trail back to the parking lot or we can return on the More Difficult trail.
