Climbing the walls at the Mazama Mountaineering Center is a key feature of all Mazama WILD camps. Whether a camper has climbed since they could stand or they've never touched a harness, climb days are eagerly anticipated by all. Having a friendly and confident belayer can make the difference in a young climber's experience on the wall.

  • All-day volunteer belay shifts generally run 4-5 hours, half-day (AM or PM) run 2.5-3 hours.
  • All youth volunteers must be willing to submit a background check and to sign the Youth Volunteer Policy Agreement.
  • New belay volunteers should plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early to do a basic belay test.
